VALLE DE BRAVO
One of the most incredible tours in the State of Mexico is to visit the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries and meet these incredible creatures that travel more than 6,000 km to reach the forested area of the State of Mexico during the months from November to March.
There are three important sanctuaries:
Ejido El Capulín Sanctuary
In this sanctuary there is a parking lot and is the starting point for this incredible tour. You will travel with your guide approximately four kilometers through beautiful landscapes of coniferous forests to Cerro Pelón.
In this sanctuary there are horse rentals and ideal places to have a picnic with benches and tables. You will also find some typical snack stalls and some rustic cabins. It is located an hour and a half from Valle de Bravo.
Piedra Herrada Sanctuary
The sanctuary is located on the slopes of the Nevado de Toluca and around it you can admire impressive mountain formations that measure more than 3000 meters above sea level. Here the oyameles are home to the thousands of butterflies that arrive year after year.
It can be reached on foot or on horseback and you will have to walk for about half an hour in the middle of incredible valleys. It is located almost an hour from Valle de Bravo.
La Mesa Sanctuary
This sanctuary is located on the border with Michoacán and has comfortable cabins, restaurants, paths for biking, horse rental and viewpoints from where you can enjoy incredible landscapes. It is located almost three hours from Valle de Bravo.
