Seven different species of turtles arrive year after year on the coasts of Sinaloa.

Officially the Sea Turtle nesting starts on June and ends in November, and the season for releasing baby sea turtles is between the months of August and December.

There are several places to enjoy this unique experience in Mazatlán like :

Mazatlan Beaches

In Mazatlán, the Aquarium is part of the Program for the Permanent Protection of Sea Turtles and therefore promotes a turtle release program on Playa Norte.

Another option in the destination is the Estrella de Mar Tortuguero Sanctuary, which is located 10 km from the road to Isla de la Piedra.

South Coast

The southern coast of Sinaloa, specifically on the beaches that are located from Delfín, located 25 minutes from Mazatlán, to Mármol, is a Reserve Zone due to the number of turtles that come to nest here year after year. On these coasts, Olive Ridley or Lora, Carey, Prieta and Laúd turtles spawn.

Verde Camacho

The Verde-Camacho Turtle Sanctuary is located just 25 minutes from Mazatlan near beautiful landscapes of mangroves.

This beach is more than 21 km long and is the main nesting area for the Olive Ridley turtle in northwestern Mexico.

This is an ecological reserve where an average of 1,500 nests are collected per year where up to 140,000 eggs can be incubated. When you visit this sanctuary you can learn more about the turtles, there are biologists who offer lectures and they also offer boat rides through the mangroves to enjoy the fauna of the area.

Playa de Ceuta

The Ceuta Sea Turtle Sanctuary is a 14 km beach and a lagoon complex, located near Elota. It is in charge of the protection, conservation, repopulation, development and control of the various species. It is located one hour and 20 minutes from Mazatlán.

Las Labradas

It is a place with interesting engraved stones, it is another of the beaches where olive ridley, leatherback and hawksbill turtles come to lay their eggs, from June to September. Here there are turtle camps that are in charge of protecting the nesting areas. It is located one hour from Mazatlan.
