This is the largest city in the Chontalpa region.
Its main attractions are located in the surrounding areas.
The most important one is the archaeological site of La Venta, with its on-site museum. This area is considered one of the earliest cities of the pre-Hispanic era and was inhabited since at least 5000 BC. You will be amazed by its enormous sculptures, some weighing up to 35 tons, attributed to the Olmec culture. The tour takes about an hour and a half and has excellent signage. Opening hours: daily from 8:00 to 17:00 hrs.
Laguna del Rosario is another natural wonder in the state of Tabasco, where you can enjoy boat rides and marvel at the contrasting deep blue of the lagoon against the emerald green of the surrounding vegetation.
The Agua Selva Eco Park is a natural paradise amidst the tropical jungle and three hills: La Pava, La Copa, and Mono Pelado, the highest elevation in Tabasco. It features trails, pools, waterfalls, and streams. There are so many options that you will need to visit for several days to explore all its natural and cultural attractions.
You can choose to visit the park's waterfalls, and while there are many, we recommend not missing: Baño de la Reina, Las Golondrinas, La Pava, Las Flores, and Velo de Novia. Along the way to each waterfall, you can discover the region's flora and fauna, including beautiful bromeliads and orchids.
Another must-visit in the park is the archaeological site of Malpasito, which was a settlement of the Zoque culture.
Among the activities you can enjoy are visiting the tropical flower plantation, the palm grove, walking on a suspension bridge, or, if you're more adventurous, practicing rappelling and sliding on a zip line.
It is located 67 kilometers from Villahermosa.
