Marietas Islands National Park
The islands are known as the Mexican Galapagos, is an uninhabited archipelago and one of the most amazing ecological refuges in the country. It consists of a group of islands located a few kilometers north of Banderas Bay.
The islands have rich marine life and are the habitat for hundreds of birds, especially the blue-footed booby.
In addition, it has a secluded sandy beach, to get there you have to swimm through a 50 ft long small tunnel carved by the sea through the rock into the hidden beach an impressive crater. It is important to notice that there is a 12-year-old age limit and you need to know how to swim. On the way to the islands it is not uncommon to see wild dolphins frolicking around the boat and in the winter season you may see a humpback whale. Once on the islands you can swim, snorkel, paddle board or kayak.
San Blas Mangroves
One of the most fun adventures in the destination is to explore the mysterious mangroves of San Blas, a historic town that can also be visited.
Navigating in a boat among the mangroves of La Tovara will surprise you with this ecosystem full of natural channels that open up among the exuberant jungle vegetation. Here there is a great variety of birds and diverse fauna among which are: crocodiles, turtles, jaguars, armadillos and ocelots, to name a few.
The tour includes a visit to a crocodile sanctuary where you can learn more about these reptiles and visit the freshwater spring to swim.
Another option is to explore the tropical jungle of the Sierra Madre and explore its rich flora and fauna that has more than 300 species of orchids and 400 species of birds. On the way, rivers are crossed and old towns are visited where you can learn more about the traditions of the region.
