The caves have been a ceremonial center for the Téenek (Huastec) people since ancient times and are currently considered a Natural Monument. 

The journey to reach them is arduous due to the suffocating humid heat in the environment but rewarding thanks to the mountainous and jungle landscape of the Huasteca region, filled with banana trees and orange or tangerine trees. 

Inside the caves, it is much cooler, and you can admire the formations of stalactites and stalagmites, such as "the turtle," "the skull," or whatever your imagination can decipher. 

Cueva Rayo del Sol (Sunbeam Cave) 

The cave has an impressive rock formation that resembles a huge cathedral, with a width of 30 m and a length of 100 m.

It offers a marvelous spectacle when sunlight penetrates through an opening, illuminating the rocks and reflecting in the pools. 

In this cave, there is a restricted corner for visitors, which is the most sacred place for the locals. It is where the figure of San Jerónimo, the protector of the place, is located, and the inhabitants celebrate on September 30th.

Cueva del Espíritu (Cave of the Spirit) 

This cave also has its charm, and myths and legends have been passed down orally since the time of the ancient Téenek. Nearby, there is a spot called "El Botiquín" (The Medicine Cabinet) because many traditional medicinal plants grow there, used by the locals.
