TOLUCA
Nevado de Toluca Lagoons
There are two crater lakes on the floor of the basin at about 4,200 m (13,800 ft), the larger Lago del Sol (Sun Lake) and the smaller, but deeper, Lago de la Luna (Moon Lake). The crystal clear drinkable waters, are a unique place to practice deep-sea diving.
By submerging in these waters you can take a trip to the past, since the lagoons were the crater of a volcano that was formed 30,000 years ago, at the end of the Pleistocene.
A great diversity of archaeological pieces have been found here, including some offerings that are believed to be related to the God Tlaloc.
The water temperature is slightly above freezing and it is the highest place in the world where diving is practiced, so suitable equipment is needed for these conditions.
The Nevado de Toluca is located 47.9 km, approximately two hours from Toluca.
