

FESTIVALS & EVENTS IN MARCH
Feria de la Bandera Iguala (Flag Fair of Iguala)
Dates: February13 to March 1st
Location: Iguala, Guerrero
The celebration includes tradition, history, art, and entertainment for families, in addition to a spectacular artistic program, juegos mecánicos, commercial pavilions, sports activities, and an enormous gastronomic variety.
International Book Fair at Palacio de Minería
Dates: February 20th to March 1st
Location: Historic Center, Mexico City
This is an event held at the Palacio de Minería (Palace of Mining) and is organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
It offers a wide editorial range and a cultural program with book readings, storytelling, book presentations, and special guests.
Campeche Carnival
Dates: February 20 – March 4
Location: Campeche, Campeche
The oldest in the country, celebrated since 1582. Among its main attractions are: the famous Baile de Cabeza de Cochino (Pig’s Head Dance), characterized by dancers dressed in traditional costumes, one of whom carries a tray on their head (adorned with paper flowers and ribbons) with a pig's head on top; the Corzo, a festivity in which only children participate; the Pintadera, where everyone goes out into the streets equipped with water balloons and paint; and the Desfile de Algarabía Campechana, in which people dress in traditional regional costumes.
Cozumel Carnival
Dates: February 26 – March 5
Location: Cozumel, Quintana Roo
This is the most popular carnival in the Mexican Caribbean. It includes parades, carros alegóricos, traditional foods, music, and dance. The best part is the Baile de Comparsas, a dance troupe competition that you must not miss.
Mérida Carnival
Dates: February 26 – March 5
Location: Mérida, Yucatán
This has been celebrated since the 18th century and is an excuse for the Ciudad Blanca (White City) to dress in colors. It incorporates the “batalla de las flores” (battle of the flowers) organized in the central plaza, where attendees enjoy a pleasant "brawl" throwing flowers at each other.
The parades with carros alegóricos show scenes ranging from the most traditional to the most avant-garde. The bailes masivos (massive public dances) are another main attraction, where live music and DJs transform the squares and streets of Mérida into enormous open-air dance floors.
There are also gastronomic showcases.
Altamira – Ciudad Madero – Tampico Carnival
Dates: February 27 – March 2
Location: Tampico, Tamaulipas
It begins with the coronation of the child kings, the "kings of fulfillment" (senior kings), and the rey feo (the "ugly king"). It features parades that take place along Fidel Velázquez Boulevard, costume contests, and various shows.
Tlaxcala Carnival
Dates: February 27 – March 4
Location: Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala
It is also among the oldest, as it began to be celebrated in 1699. The party also incorporates the "elimination of the bad mood," but it is done through the “tormento del Tragafuegos”(Torment of the Fire-eater), which consists of burning a doll from head to toe. It is characterized by dances of Nahua(indigenous) origin. The carros alegóricos are accompanied by dancers known as “huehues” or “viejitos” (little old men) who represent wisdom. They wear brightly colored capes embroidered with sequins and beads.
Guaymas Carnival
Dates: February 27 – March 4
Location: Guaymas, Sonora
Most of the residents participate in the celebration.
It includes literary contests and comparsas. Of course, you can also enjoy the quema del mal humor(burning of the bad mood), the coronation of the carnival kings, and the parades of colorful carros alegóricos.
Apizaco Fair
Dates: February 28th to March 15th
Location: Apizaco, Tlaxcala
The town celebrates the anniversary of its founding with a joyous and fun-filled party.
Attendees can enjoy the Paella Festival, cultural events, parades, puppet shows, bullfights, and charreadas, as well as concerts by important artists.
Zihuatanejo Guitar Festival
Dates: March 1 – 8
Location: Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guerrero
The festival offers eight days of guitar music framed by a Pacific paradise. Live concerts are held in various restaurants and on the beach.
It is a true community celebration organized by a non-profit association aiming to promote music with world-class performers.
Eurojazz Festival

Location: Avenida Río Churubusco 79, Country Club Churubusco, Coyoacán, Mexico City
Held in the green areas of the National Center for the Arts (CENART), this festival has become one of the most important jazz gatherings of its kind worldwide.
It features 21 concerts across two stages, with artists and ensembles from Austria, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, and Mexico.
Complementary activities include craft exhibitions and sales, workshops, gastronomic showcases, film screenings, and artistic performances.
International Cultural Mariachi Festival

The festival offers eight days of guitar music framed by a Pacific paradise. Live concerts are held in various restaurants and on the beach.

Tapachula Expo Fair
Dates: March 5 – 15
Location: Tapachula, Chiapas
The celebration includes a Palenque, amusement rides, horse racing, motocross, sports tournaments, and parades.
It also features concerts and performances by national artists.
The events are held at the Teatro del Pueblo and Palenque.
Coyoacán Book Fair (FILCO)
Dates: March 6 – 15
Location: Historic Center of Coyoacán, Mexico City
A cultural celebration held at Jardín Hidalgo and Jardín Centenario, featuring more than 200 exhibitors and over 200 free activities, including talks, panel discussions, dance performances, poetry readings, classical and regional music concerts, theater productions, dramatized readings, and storytelling sessions.
World Fair (Feria del Mundo)

A multicultural festival that allows visitors to travel across more than 40 countries without leaving Mexico City. Attendees can experience traditions, gastronomy, crafts, and artistic expressions from around the world.

National Michelada Fair

Placitas Españolas (Cultural Gastronomic Festival)

A cultural event celebrating Ocotepec gastronomy, music, and traditions.

Ensenada Carnival

One of Mexico’s oldest and most representative carnivals, with more than 100 years of history.
Highlights include coronations, music, dancing, parades, and colorful floats. Festivities begin with the traditional “Burning of Bad Humor,” followed by popular dances and troupe competitions.

Spring Jazz Festival

Location: Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco
The festival aims to promote contemporary popular music through specialized workshops and concert presentations.
It takes place at Muelle de los Muertos and features both national and international artists.
Pulque and Barbecue Fair
Dates: March 13 – 15
Location: Avenida Álvaro Obregón 20, Barranca Seca, La Magdalena Contreras, Mexico City
One of the most anticipated gastronomic events in Mexico City, held at the La Magdalena Contreras borough esplanade.
Visitors can enjoy barbacoa tacos freshly prepared from traditional ovens, consommé, handmade tortillas, a wide variety of salsas, flavored pulque, live music, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Exhibitors present regional dishes and traditional pulque flavors such as strawberry, oat, and pine nut.
Strawberry Fair

Location: Irapuato, Guanajuato
The world's strawberry capital celebrates its fair with a huge exhibition of strawberry-derived products.
The venue is the Inforum, which hosts amusement rides, a commercial and agricultural expo, the Palenque, the Teatro del Pueblo, cultural events, a craft expo, and gastronomic showcases of typical regional dishes.
The Palenque and Teatro del Pueblo are the venues for various top-tier artists.
Lázaro Cárdenas Expo Fiesta

Location: Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán
The fair offers a variety of activities such as amusement rides, craft exhibitions, gastronomic showcases, and a commercial zone.
Additionally, it presents top-tier artists at the Teatro del Pueblo, folk dances like the Danza de los Viejitos, and a singing contest.
Feria Internacional del Caballo, Texcoco (International Horse Fair)

Location: Texcoco, State of Mexico
One of the most important fairs in the country, it features a variety of events and activities, including a Palenque and Teatro del Pueblo with top-tier artists.

Cervefest

Considered the largest beer fair in the country, it features interesting conferences, tastings, gastronomic showcases, and musical groups.

Ibero-American Festival of Musical Culture, Vive Latino

Location: Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Mexico City
This event is held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and features a vast array of bands playing different genres such as rock, ska, reggae, surf, punk, electronic, garage, folk, and fusion, among others.

Traditional Festivities of San José del Cabo

The celebration features a Palenque and Teatro del Pueblo with performances by internationally renowned artists.

International Obsidian Fair

Location: Teotihuacán, State of Mexico
This festival aims to promote the work of workshops around Teotihuacán dedicated to creating obsidian figures.
The festivities begin with the coronation of the queen and continue with various artistic performances such as modern dance, pre-Hispanic dance, and classical ballet, as well as rock concerts, mariachi bands, string music, and classical music.
It also features a Palenque, equestrian shows, charrería, and jaripeos, as well as pre-Hispanic ball games and other popular cultural events.
Highlights include hot air balloon displays and fireworks.
The International Obsidian Festival also coincides with the Spring Equinox, one of the most important events in Teotihuacán.
Cumbre Tajín

Location: El Tajín Archaeological Zone and Papantla, Veracruz
This festival honors Totonac culture and is celebrated annually around the spring equinox, offering a beautiful blend of ancestral rituals, music, reflection, dances, healings, and various artistic and traditional expressions.
The festival offers diverse activities such as ceremonies, workshops, rituals, alternative therapies, indigenous games, concerts, dances, conferences, and screenings. Visitors can participate in over 5,000 activities spread across different niches in Parque Takilhsukut, named after the Pyramid of the Niches.
The event venues include the Takilhsukut Theme Park, the El Tajín Archaeological Zone, and the Papantla Zócalo.
Cumbre Tajín is a window into indigenous culture and its multiple identities, creating a unique universe of sounds, aromas, colors, flavors, and expressions.
Spring Equinox

The spring equinox has historically been one of the major religious and pagan festivals of various cultures.
Today, many people visit different archaeological sites on this date. Specifically, Chichén Itzá is famous for the spectacle of light and shadow on one corner of El Castillo, making it appear as if the feathered serpent is descending.
Spring Fair (Flower Fair) – Cuernavaca
Dates: March 25 – April 5
Location: Cuernavaca, Morelos
This fair has become a tradition since its first celebration in 1965.
The festivities include gastronomic, commercial, and craft exhibitions, amusement rides, craft sales, a Teatro del Pueblo, a Palenque, and the traditional fair bread.
The event also features flower shows, dances, concerts, an ice rink, a haunted house, and many other attractions.
One of the most important events is the coronation and gala or coronation ball of the queen.
Pal Norte

Bubbles Fest

Flower Festival

Location: Huauchinango, Puebla
This event has been held since 1938 on the eve of the first Sunday of Lent in honor of the city's patron, "El Señor Jesús en su Santo Entierro."
There is a large exhibition of flowers and plants, as well as crafts and typical dishes.
Enjoy regional folklore with traditional dances, the coronation of the Flower Queen, sports, religious, and cultural events, fireworks, and performances by important artists.
