Manzanillo is an ideal place to learn to surf or for experienced surfers to enjoy. Santiago Bay offers multiple surfing spots for all levels of surfing.
One of Manzanillo’s biggest challenge is the strong water currents. But if you are a more experience surfer you will learn that the strong water current can work in your favor. It is said, by local surfers and local instructors, that if you master surfing in Manzanillo you can surf anywhere in the world.
The best season for experience surfers extend from July through October. This time is perfect for experience the best waves in Manzanillo.

Boca de Pascuales
It is an extensive beach that stretches out in a wide and long strip of fine dark gray sand.
This monstrous rivermouth beach break offer more experienced surfers the opportunity to ride some of the best tubes in Mexico. But this treacherous break has a reputation of breaking boards.
The best wind direction is from the north northeast. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest.
It has a sand bar bottom, break on both sides and the breaking season is all year round. It is very consistent and the waves here can reach 9 m (30 ft) and more. Pascuales is recommended for experienced surfers.
Winter is often considered the best time to surf at Boca de Pascuales, but huge waves can be found in summer too.
It is located twenty minutes from Tecomán and just over an hour south from Manzanillo.
Surf in Manzanillo
Playa Paraíso (Paradise Beach)
It is an exposed beach break and offer some of Colima’s best wave action during the strong summer swells for surfers.
Works best in offshore winds from the north northeast. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest.
The beach breaks offer lefts and rights, has a sandy bottom and is recommended for experienced surfers.
These beach has several seafood restaurants, so if you want to enjoy local food while watching the surfers this is the place to go.
It is located about 40 minutes south of Manzanillo.
Cuyutlán
Its main attraction is the green wave that reaches a height between 6 to 10 m (20 to 33 ft) during the months of April to June. They are very frequent and the speed of the wave is very fast.
The best time of the year for surfing Cuyutlan is during the Winter, and most often during December with cosisten clean waves 1 to 2 meters (3 to 6 ft) high, but you can ride good tube.
It is located 12 km from Armería.
El Real Beach
Although the waves on this beach are moderate, are characterized by forming a very good tube, a good option for experience surfers.
La Boquita Beach
This beach offers an exceptional point break that can be enjoyed by surfers of all levels. It is a great place for beginers and is great for learning.
The best time of the year for surfing La Boquita is during the summer when big Southern swells enter the Santiago Bay.
La Dos and Tepalcates
These have been secret surfing points enjoyed exclusively by locals. Similar to Playa La Boquita, the best season is during the summer months.
Both are located north Manzanillo Bay.
