There are several places where you can go hiking in the city such as:
Bosque de Chapultepec
Chapultepec often referred to as Mexico City’s lungs offers walking paths that meander between quiet ponds, monumental buildings, and a world-class collection of museums.
It has four sections: the entrance is in the first section, in the second there are several food stalls, in the third the remains of a hydroelectric plant, and in the fourth section you can explore the river, the only living river in the city, in addition to 12 springs. There are several trails:
The Main Trail, is a 3.6 mile loop covers a good part of the park. Starts at the Auditorio Metro Station, run down Paseo de la Reforma (Reforma Avenue) and enter the park by taking a right onto Av. Grutas. Along the way you will enjoy the big trees and all the features in Reforma like some of the most important museums in the city.
El Sope, is a 3.1 mile loop, considered the best route by local runners and is a path well lit, so it is the ideal option to run early in the morning or late in the evening. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 34 min to complete.
Minor Lake, is a 3.1 mile loop in a pavement surface where you can enjoy the wooded area, the lake and great views of the city.

La Mexicana Park
It is a beautiful park located in Santa Fe that has beautiful trails and an artificial lake where you can enjoy a green space in the middle of modern buildings.
Los Dinamos
This is a protected area located south of the city. It has trails in the middle of a wooded landscape and you can climb to the top at 3,460 meters above sea level with spectacular views of the city.
There are four dynamos in total. The first is located at the entrance and further on there are several stalls that offer food. The second takes you to the waterfalls. In the third are the remains of a hydroelectric plant. The fourth dynamo is at the end of the path and offers an amazing landscape with a river.
Bosque de Tlalpan
This wooded area has an area of 252 ha on the slopes of the Ajusco in the Tlalpan delegation.
It has rough terrain with several trails, some dirt and others paved.
Desierto de los Leones National Park
The trails of the Desierto de los Leones National Park with 1,500 ha. of forest are an excellent option, there are trails that vary from moderate to difficult but all are easy to follow. If you have an advanced level you can try one of the most challenging trails that leads you to the top of Cerro de San Miguel, the highest point in the park.
You can also visit the Ex Convent with underground tunnels and secret gardens, or enjoy all its natural landscapes made up of its wooded vegetation, springs and streams.
San Bernabé Ocotepec Ecotourism Park
In the park you can walk along its paths and go up to the La Peña viewpoint to have a panoramic view of the city.
Cumbres del Ajusco National Park
The park offers a landscape of pine and oak trees, as well as grasslands. It has trails that take you to the top of Pico del Águila at a height of 3,937 meters above sea level. Due to this height, this walk is considered high mountain. It must also be taken into account that the slope has an inclination of 40 degrees. On the tour you will be able to appreciate a wooded vegetation and depending on the group that accompanies you, the journey takes from 2 to 4 hours.
Also within this park you can walk for 17 km through the wooded area, crossing through the community of Parres, taking the Mexico – Cuernavaca highway as a reference, to reach Tres Marías in the state of Morelos. The walk requires a good effort, but the trails are not very steep and the landscapes are magnificent. Of course, when you arrive at Tres Marías you can taste the traditional local quesadillas.
Los Bosques de la Cañada de Contreras
It is a protected area with a beautiful forest in Magdalena Contreras. The humid forest is the habitat of several birds and a true natural refuge within the big city.
El Ocotal
It is a forest in the Cuajimalpa delegation with several hiking trails.
Parque Eco-Arqueológico Mazatepetl
It is a park located in Magdalena Contreras, it has archaeological remains and viewpoints with spectacular views of the city.
Xitle Volcano
This enigmatic volcano is an ideal place to explore and discover beautiful natural landscapes. It is a small peak but with steep slopes. When you reach the top you can access the bottom of the crater, which makes this experience unforgettable.
Other options
There are other alternatives, although they are a little further from the city, such as: the Paso de Cortés inside the Izta-Popo National Park where you can admire the pair of volcanoes. From there you can climb any of the two elevations.
You can also visit the Nevado de Toluca where you can hike to the top and see the lagoons, a unique landscape.
