A CITY WITH BEAUTIFUL COLONIAL JEWELS
It is the capital of the smallest state in Mexico, a true mosaic of colonial beauties. Its layout dates back to 1524, and the Franciscans established one of their first convents here.
It is a town rich in customs and traditions, celebrating its carnivals and festivals with unique joy and colorful displays. It holds a special place in the country for its artisanal manifestations, known for their beauty and originality.
The city boasts a wide variety of attractions, starting with its charming main square and numerous colonial buildings that embellish its streets. It is also home to several museums that exhibit the archaeological and historical riches of the region.
The current Tlaxcalteca cuisine reflects a millennia-old heritage from pre-Hispanic ancestors. Among its typical dishes are tlacoyos, escamoles (ant eggs), maguey worms, and chileatole, a corn-based drink seasoned with chili to taste.
Its crafts are also diverse and colorful, showcasing how Tlaxcala has managed to preserve all ancestral traditions. A visit to the House of Crafts, dedicated to the exhibition and sale of the main artisanal expressions of the region, is highly recommended. Additionally, on Saturdays and Sundays, there is an artisan market in Xicoténcatl Plaza, offering an extensive variety of products ranging from sarapes to various basketry and ceramics.
The average annual temperature is 16.2°C.
