This beautiful dam provides water for crop irrigation and supplies water to the nearby community.
The dam is fed by the Escanela River, which originates in the Sierra de Pinal de Amoles and covers 443 hectares.
It is a place where hundreds of migratory birds arrive, and it is ideal for fishing bass, tilapia, carp, and mirrors.
It is the most important wetland in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve and has been internationally recognized as a Ramsar site, a designation granted by UNESCO for its significant role within ecosystems.
Here 191 species of birds have been registered, of which 65 are aquatic and 125 are terrestrial.
