This plaza dates back to the late 19th century.

It is characterized by its pleasant gardens and features a neoclassical kiosk in the center.

The plaza is surrounded by interesting buildings such as Teatro Juárez, which boasts a large mural depicting the history of Tamaulipas, and the Basilica of Our Lady of El Refugio.

These constructions give the square a special character as each of them displays different architectural styles such as Art Deco, Colonial, Gothic, and Neoclassical, to name a few.
