More than 258 bird species have been identified in the region, including some endemic ones.
Among the endemic species are: Cortés's gull or yellow-legged gull, common American oystercatcher, surf sandpiper and the red-tailed tropical bird, among others.
The best areas for bird watching are: Estero Morúa and La Pinta, Isla Pájaros and Isla Jorge, where you can also have sea lions encounters because this playful creatures can be seen year-round.
Another good option is the Colorado River Delta, located two and a half hours from Rocky Point. The wetlands are the habitat of a great variety of birds.
El Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar, located two hours from Rocky Point. This desert is considered the most biodiverse desert in the world, with very unique geological characteristics. Within the reserve there are more than 200 species of birds such as the desert woodpecker, the northern roadrunner, the owl, the great horned owl, turtle doves, redfish, quail and seagull, among many others.
