In Baja California Sur, around 414 species of endemic and migratory birds have been registered.
Each of the small islands is a nature reserve. One of the best places to observe different species of birds is Espiritu Santo Island, where you can see the peninsular huitlacoche, the sea cock, the long-beaked sarapico, and the white and gray heron, among others. You can also see some migratory birds such as sheep, white pelicans and collared geese.
Among the most common species in the region are: hawks, troglodytes, woodpeckers, roadrunners, xanthus hummingbirds, and gray thrashers.
Along the shoreline you can see diving duck, green-necked Canadian and Canadian Albino Pelican.
In the highest part of the Sierra de la Laguna, right in the lagoon you can see birds such as: the peregrine falcon (falco peregrinus), the black (parabuteo unicinctus) and the red-tailed (buteo jamaicensis), queleles, hawks, owls and owls. Among the endemics is the xantus hummingbird (hylocharis xantusii), known only in this sierra.
Bahía Magdalena, near Comondú, is one of the most important places of arrival for migratory waterbirds on the entire Pacific coast.
