The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area has more than 320 different bird species.

Of the species that can be observed in the area, approximately half are residents and the other half are migratory.

Among the most common resident birds are: the grackle, the magpie, the brown spring, the picuyo, the aura, the green heron, the cormorant, the hummingbird and the cardinal..

And among the migratory birds are: the white pelican, the blue heron and the stork. and  la cigüeña.
