On the beaches of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, from May to September, the Olive Ridley turtles come to lay their eggs, although the Laud and Hawksbill turtles also arrive in smaller numbers.
The females come out of the sea and look for the best place to dig a hole and deposit an average of about 100 eggs in each nest, each egg have a diameter of 4 to 7 cm. In the end, with its fins it moves the sand to cover its nest and protect it from predators.
The incubation takes approximately two months and it is when the small turtles break the shell and look for a way to get to the surface.
Turtle releases take place in some hotels along Playa El Palmar and it is an unforgettable experience.
