Metzabok means "God of Thunder" in Mayan. It was decreed in 1998 as a Flora and Fauna Protection Area.

It has an area of 3,368 hectares that includes evergreen forest, represented in a great variety of species such as oak, cedar, mahogany, chicozapote, rubber and ceiba, among others.

It is the habitat of endangered species such as the hocopheasant, the harpy eagle, the quetzal and the jaguar.

In the reserve you can find over 24 lagoons of different shapes and sizes, as well as viewpoints located at strategic points from which, in addition to admiring nature, you can see spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

The Metzabok and Tzibana lagoons are of the most beautiful lagoons in the system.

Experience the tranquility of paddling by canoe in these lagoons and admire the jungle, including their inhabitants. Along the way, one of your Lacandon guides can tell you the stories and legends of the place.

There are also trails where you can see some Mayan vestiges and incredible caves like Tzibana with amazing cave paintings.
