The town's name comes from the surname of its founder, José Eduardo Cárdenas y Romero.

It is a pleasant town with a tranquil atmosphere, featuring a beautiful main square where the Temple of San Antonio de Padua is located. The temple has a modest facade and two majestic towers with three levels each. Inside, the highlight is the resurrected Christ on the cross.

Undoubtedly, one of the places you shouldn't miss is the Carlos Pellicer Cámara House Museum, which is precisely where the famous poet was born. This 19th-century building has four rooms showcasing a collection of objects that narrate the life of this figure, including photographs, clothing, furniture, and more. The museum also offers interesting temporary exhibitions. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In the area, you can visit other interesting places such as Villa and Puerto Sánchez Magallanes, a picturesque fishing village with tranquil gray sandy beaches, including the notable Barra de Santa Ana.

If you enjoy nature, other good options are Laguna del Carmen and La Manchona, both of which flow into the Gulf of Mexico and are surrounded by lush vegetation. They are ideal for fishing, boat rides, and bird watching.

Located next to the Port of Sánchez Magallanes, Isla El Pajaral is an ideal place for eco-tourism lovers as it is a refuge for hundreds of birds such as seagulls, pelicans, herons, and more.

Here, you will also find the Chontalpa Ecological Park, considered one of the best bird-watching spots in the region, with an area of 227 hectares that serve as a habitat for 124 bird species.

Another option is the Olmeca Ecological Park, a recreational center that offers various eco-tourism and agro-tourism activities. This place combines a beautiful natural environment with culture, as you can appreciate some archaeological sites here. The park offers cabins, stilt houses, and a restaurant.
