Its name means “place of caves” in Tarahumara. It’s a slot canyon, with an abundance of caves, and curving, pitted walls, climbing 100ft up from the sand floor.
The canyon weaves back & ends in an immense cave, in the shape of a drop of water and there is an altar dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.. This place seems to be part of a science fiction movie and at the same time is a magical place that invites spiritual retreat.
The canyon had it’s own micro-climate, different from the surrounding desert. It is cooler and home of hundreds of birds. In addition, important sports competitions have been held here and, due to its acoustic characteristics, cultural and artistic events have been held in the canyon.
