It's a masterful design by Tom Doak.
The design took advantage of the desert landscape and incorporated the massive rock formations as part of the course, contrasting with the impressive blue tones of the Sea of Cortez. All of this allows the course to run through beautiful landscapes and offer various challenges among cactus forests and strategically placed bunkers. The elevated tee boxes also provide some complications for the golfers.
Golf Magazine highlights the incredible Hole 5, with its 410 yards practically carved through cacti, while Hole 14, a par 4, runs along the beach, and Hole 18 ends in huge white sand dunes.
Moreover, Hole 11 starts from the highest point of the course and drops down to the beach for the last holes. Hole 12 is the most intimidating, and Hole 9 is the longest but also offers the greatest reward, as it gives players the chance for a birdie or an eagle with a strong second shot.
