Its tradition of internationality can be traced back to the time of the “Decena Trágica” (Ten Tragic Days).

During those years, the area was declared neutral in order to ensure the safety of foreign personnel from embassies and consulates located in the city.

Cafés, restaurants, and nightclubs began to establish themselves in the area, gradually creating its unique atmosphere that solidified from the 1950s onwards. It was initially called Zona Dorada (Golden Zone), but the name did not persist. It was then called Zona Lila (Lilac Zone), but it met the same fate.

In the late 1960s, the painter José Luis Cuevas gave it the name it is still known by today.

It is one of the most visited tourist areas, offering entertainment for all tastes and a great diversity of restaurants and commercial establishments.

Zona Rosa is a very peculiar place where you can find people heading to work, tourists, students, musicians, mimes, bohemians, and people of all kinds who keep this area of the city active practically all day long.

At night, it becomes a major meeting center with a wide variety of bars and nightclubs.
