Its name is derived from the Carmelite school that was located in this area in the 17th century.
The old neighborhood of San Ángel is located in the southeast of the city.
This neighborhood is one of the most beautiful places in the city and is characterized by its large mansions, spacious gardens, romantic small squares, and cobblestone streets. It has a large number of high-end restaurants and exclusive shops.
Part of its appeal is its Flower Market, which people visit to buy colorful bouquets and floral arrangements with delicate perfumes.
The San Jacinto Square stands out, as in its surroundings, you can find high-end restaurants, some of which offer beautiful terraces with outdoor seating, as well as shops to buy various Mexican art pieces. On Saturdays, it comes to life as painters and sculptors display their works, along with vendors offering select crafts and antiques.
San Ángel
In front of the square, also on Saturdays, you can enjoy the Bazar del Sábado, the ideal place to buy Mexican crafts and artworks in a colorful atmosphere.
If you visit during the month of July, on the 16th of that month, the celebration of Our Lady of Carmen takes place in San Ángel. The former convent offers not only a magnificent collection of New Spanish art but also the joy of the patron saint festivities and the Flower Fair. The festival, essentially religious, is a pretext for a popular celebration where bread, buñuelos, and all kinds of snacks are offered. On that date, there are also amusement rides, lotteries, and merchandise stalls that extend throughout the bustling Saturdays.
