It is one of the largest reserves in northern Mexico, occupies the municipalities of Múzquiz, Villa Acuña and Ocampo, covering an area of 208 hectares.
One of its hallmarks is that it has altitudes ranging from 3,000 masl to 40 masl, so it ranges from desert to wooded areas where many animals like peregrine falcons, beavers, black bears, pumas, and golden eagles live. It is an excellent option for those who like bird watching.
It offers impressive landscapes that include mountains, rivers and canyons very suitable for practicing various activities.
Some of the most outstanding places in the reserve are: the Boquillas Canyon, La Cuesta de Malena, the Devil's Canyon and the Maderas del Carmen Forest.
Within the reserve there are cave paintings, petroglyphs and burials of pre-Columbian cultures.
