In the Cuetzalan region, you can enjoy not only caves and waterfalls but also unique and particular water formations known as Pata de Perro (Dog's Paw) due to their shape.
These pools have formed through thousands of years of water erosion. They consist of five small interconnected circles, four of which are shallow. You can swim in all the interconnected pools. The water comes from the interior of the earth and flows out of one of the three caves.
The cave system extends several kilometers and is connected by small cracks through which water flows.
One of the caves, known as Ajpasat, is considered one of the most attractive due to its water flow and the pools formed inside the cave.
The second cave has no water and is used by locals to place offerings, as it is considered a sacred space.
The third cave is known as the throat due to the shape of its entrance. A river runs through this cave, and the water level varies greatly, but the waters are calm.
It is important to note that reaching the pools is not easy, so it is always advisable to go with a guide.
In the area, you can also visit a cave with an underground river known as "Garganta del Diablo" (Devil's Throat) and the Sacred Canyon, which has crystal clear waters and was used for offering rituals for good harvests during pre-Hispanic times.
