Since the 18th century, it has been a bustling place.
This square is located in the Lagunilla neighborhood of Mexico City, between Allende and Eje Central.
The square is named after Italian General Giuseppe Garibaldi, who, despite never living in Mexico, expressed great admiration for President Juárez.
In 1923, a typical Jalisco food restaurant called El Tenampa opened in the square, where street musicians played. In the early 1930s, mariachi groups played in the square and could be hired to serenade customers wherever they wanted.
It is a place to experience Mexican music in all its intensity. Mariachi groups gather in the square, waiting to be hired.
Additionally, there are a good number of restaurants, bars, and cantinas where a festive atmosphere prevails. The best time to enjoy it is in the afternoon and evening, especially in groups. The Tequila and Mezcal Museum is located here as well.
The Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico City is one of the best places to enjoy a mariachi music show; make sure to visit it.
