Misión de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Chillá o de los Dolores del Sur
It was founded in August 1721 by the Jesuit missionary Clemente Guillén and financed by the Pious Fund of the Californias.
It was located by the seaside halfway between the missions of Loreto and La Paz, serving as a resting point for those traveling from one mission to another.
In 1737, the Jesuit missionaries Lambert Hostell (German) and Bernhart relocated the mission further west, on the banks of the La Pasión stream, and also established the Visit Chapels of La Concepción, La Santísima Trinidad, La Redención, and La Resurrección.
In 1768, it was abandoned due to various reasons such as lack of population, water, and the inhospitable nature of the region, and the few natives in the area were transferred to the Mission of Todos Santos.
Currently, only some foundations of the mission are preserved, and reaching the site requires traveling on horseback for several hours.
Location
It is located one hundred and three kilometers south of the Mission of Our Lady of Loreto in Comondú, B.C.S.
