In the area, there are several lagoons formed in ancient volcanic craters, and Alchichica is the largest of them.

It has a diameter of two kilometers and has a high salinity index, which is why it is known as the "little sea of Puebla". On its shores, there are white coral rock formations.

This water mirror, due to its peculiar characteristics, is full of legends, from silver-haired mermaids to extraterrestrials. Some of the locals claim that there is a cave with mysterious lights at the bottom of the crater.

On a clear day, the beauty of the lagoon is complemented by the Cerro del Pizarro and the Pico de Orizaba.

There are several restaurants on the shores, and swimming is possible, although the water is very cold with temperatures ranging from 15ºC to 20ºC.
