CIUDAD VICTORIA

Cueva del Abra

It has easy access and is spectacular due to its dimensions. The entrance area measures 180 m (591 ft ) and at the end you can see an amazing hole in the ceiling. Located 13 km from Ciudad Mante and two hours from Ciudad Victoria.

Gruta de Quintero

You can explore the cave for 500 m (1,640 ft ) and get to know its incredible fauna. Additionally, it offers a show every afternoon when a colony of thousands of bats come out of the cave. Located 13 km. from Ciudad Mante in the Sierra de Cucharas, two hours from Ciudad Victoria.

Cueva del Nacimiento

The cave is in the midst of an impressive natural environment as it is part of one of the biggest attractions in the region, El Nacimiento. From this cave the Mante River flows at the foot of a rocky cliff and is one of the deepest flooded caves in the world. This cave is one of the deepest and most majestic in the country. Located in the municipality of Mante, two hours from Ciudad Victoria.

Cuevas del Pachón, de la Florida and del Tigre

These are other caves that you can explore and are located in the municipality of Antiguo Morelos. The one in Pachón is distinguished by having an underground lake inside with a large population of blind fish. Located two hours and 20 minutes from Ciudad Victoria.

 

Caving in Tamaulipas

Cueva del Molino

At its entrance it has wide flooded galleries, lakes and a wide and peaceful river. Due to its characteristics, to explore it, you have to swim part of the tour in the midst of geological formations that amaze with their beauty. Located in Rancho del Molino, one hour from Ciudad Victoria.

El Cielo Biosphere Reserve

On the eastern side of the sierra, within the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve, there are several interesting cavities to explore, as they have pottery remains and cave paintings. The most spectacular is the Cueva de Zapata with a huge underground passage illuminated by three natural skylights. Other options are: the Cuevas del Agua and Cuevas del Infiernillo with enormous halls that offer incredible rock formations and the Cueva de la Mina y de la Capilla with an interesting diversity of fauna.

El Cañón del Infiernillo

It has several caves such as Los Portales and Cueva de Romero with interesting anthropological findings like mummies and other objects such as ceramics, textiles and vestiges of corn, pumpkins and beans dating back to 6,500 BC. Located 50 minutes from Ciudad Victoria.

 

 

Sierra de San Carlos

There is a series of caves where up to five thousand cave paintings have been identified. In Cueva de los Caballos, inside the Bronze Canyon, there are more than 1,550 images, in Cueva del Indio representations of pre-Hispanic weapons were found. Other cave paintings are: La Noria and Las Colmenas in the La Noria Canyon and El Carrizo in the Cañada de Las Pozas. Located within the municipality of Burgos, two hours from Ciudad Victoria.

Sistema Purificación (Purification System)

It is an option for the most experienced, since it is a network of caves that is one of the longest in the world with a length of 94 km and a depth of more than 950 m (3,117 ft). It is an labyrinth with several underground rivers that end up forming the course of the Purificación River. It is located approximately two hours from Ciudad Victoria.

Grutas de Nogales

To reach the caves, you have to travel 12 km of dirt road until you reach the ejidal community of San Vicente and then you will have to walk along a path for about an hour along the banks of the Guayalejo River, and then go up a mountainous slope. All the effort is rewarded when you enter the caves and see the magnificent rock formations that have been formed over time. Located in the northern part of the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve, approximately one hour from Ciudad Victoria.
