It is located within the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park near the community of Potrero Redondo and is considered one of the most spectacular canyons in the country.
The trail is filled with challenges and unique landscapes, starting with a rappelling descent and a jump from a height of four meters into a blue pool. It features over 30 waterfalls ranging in height from one to twelve meters.
The canyon extends for 9 kilometers, where you have to swim in huge pools, jump from various heights (up to 15 meters), rappel down, swim in underground rivers, and explore caves. The term "Matacanes" refers to the porous rock formations through which water filters.
The best months to visit this place are from May to August when the climate is stable and mild. It's important to note that from December to February, only experienced individuals with the proper equipment should attempt this route due to extremely low temperatures.
