Boca de Potrerillos is located near a mine and is a site with an approximate area of 6 km2 (600 ha) where you can see archaeological remains distributed throughout the area.
It has approximately 4,000 engraved stones and over 8,000 images. The predominant forms are fauna elements, solar symbols, helical shapes, spirals, and so on.
According to radiocarbon studies, the first settlement is believed to date back to 8900 BC, so it is believed that some engravings were made around that time. Some scholars believe that this was a stellar observatory since the engravings depict the movement of celestial bodies. Although there are also petroglyphs with cultural and religious significance, they are even considered a precursor to writing.
