It is one of the most important monuments in the city.
It was inaugurated in 1952 by the then-president Miguel Alemán Valdés. It is also known as the Monument to the “Niños Héroes” (The Boy Heroes).
This is a work by architect Enrique Aragón Echegaray and sculptor Ernesto Tamaríz, consisting of six marble columns topped with bronze eagles and torches.
In the center, "The Nation" is represented by a female figure holding one of the fallen cadets from the Castle of Chapultepec in each arm. Next to this figure, another cadet is depicted in a heroic gesture. At the foot of this ensemble, there is a plaque with the phrase "To the defenders of the Nation 1846-1847."
The remains of General Felipe Santiago Xicoténcatl and six cadets who were responsible for defending the former Military College housed in the Castle of Chapultepec are located here.
