Eight kilometers ahead of Chignahuapan is the Salto de Quetzalapan, one of the largest, most impressive, and most visited waterfalls in the Sierra Norte.
This waterfall is fed by the river of the same name, which comes from Laguna de Chignahuapan, and it drops 100 meters into a pool of thermal waters.
To reach the breathtaking waterfall, it is necessary to descend 365 stone steps.
At the top, there is a recreational area that offers different adventure and extreme sports activities, including a zip line, a suspension bridge, and a high-tension cable that invites you to walk four meters above the river and get your adrenaline pumping. There are viewpoints, a cafeteria, palapa areas, barbecue grills, restrooms, and parking.
You can also appreciate the remains of the hydroelectric plant that was inaugurated in 1930.
