This river originates from the highest summit in Mexico, the Pico de Orizaba, at an altitude of about 5,000 meters, and flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

Along its 368 km course, the river runs surrounded by dense vegetation. 

There are facilities for swimming, fishing, or water skiing.
