The reserve covers an area of 5,752 hectares and is located only 7 km from the mouth of the Usumacinta River, being crossed by the San Pedro River.
One of its main features is the salinity of its waters. This is due to the communication between the river waters and those of the sea that seep through geological faults. That's why you can see a large number of mangroves that are usually only found in coastal areas.
There are four splendidly beautiful waterfalls, known by the locals as Tasiste, El Imperio, El Chile, and La Botica. The waterfalls form natural pools where you can swim. In the last waterfall, a resort has been created with a tourist lodge, palapas, and a restaurant.
The lush vegetation surrounding the waterfalls makes it a paradise-like place, inhabited by a multitude of birds. It's a beautiful site to enjoy nature.
