It is a place that contrasts with the predominantly desert landscapes of the Baja California peninsula, since the park has a forest vegetation with 142 species of plants, which makes it the ideal place in the summer when temperatures are pleasantly mild.
There are three main canyons called: Del Diablo, La Providencia and Toledo, as well as natural pools, waterfalls, palm groves and petroglyphs. It is an important refuge for species such as bighorn sheep, rainbow trout, California condor, deer, coyotes, and bobcats.
Here is located the Picacho del Diablo with 3,086 meters above sea level, which is the highest peak in all of Baja California, where you can see pines and cypresses covered with snow during the winter.
Due to its height, its clean air and low light pollution, the San Pedro National Astronomical Observatory was established, with a 2.5 m diameter telescope, the second largest in the country. This site is considered one of the three best observation places on the planet. You can request at the entrance the possibility of looking through the telescope and if you are lucky and they are not working on something specific, you can have an unforgettable experience.
It has a series of perfectly delimited trails throughout the park. One of the most attractive leads to Picacho del Diablo, from where you have incredible views of San Felipe, including the desert and the Sea of Cortez.
In the lower areas of the park there are some ranches that offer comfortable cabins and it has a Cultural Center that includes a small museum with an exhibit related with the history and natural characteristics of the area.
