It is one of the largest parks in the country, covering 90,000 hectares of forest vegetation, rich fauna, and the incomparable landscape of the second and third highest peaks in the country, Popocatépetl with an altitude of 5,542 meters and Iztaccíhuatl with 5,220 meters.
Access to Popocatépetl has been restricted due to the constant volcanic activity. If you want to visit this area, you should check with CENAPRED if the Paso de Cortés is open. The park's offices are located in Amecameca, State of Mexico.
Within the park, there are six well-marked hiking trails that you can explore on your own, but we always advise that you undertake any excursion with an experienced guide.
At the foot of the volcanoes, there is an ecotourism park with cabins, a lake, a restaurant, and a variety of activities. The park includes a canopy tour with a circuit of suspension bridges, a climbing wall, a 400-meter zip line, and a bridge with various levels of difficulty.
The best time to visit the park is from November to March.
