It comprises 25,675 hectares and is located in Morelos, the State of Mexico and Puebla. Only 700 hectares are located in the northern part of the municipality of Tetela del Volcán. Its climate ranges from temperate to cold, since this high mountain area is more than 4000 meters above sea level.
The park has 6 well marked hiking trails. One of the most visited is the Alpine Trail, which is 7 km long and ends at the La Joya viewpoint, from where you can start your high mountain path to the top of the Iztaccíhuatl volcano.
Excursions to the Popocatépetl volcano are prohibited due to its constant activity.
Along the way you will be surprised by beautiful landscapes that include streams and waterfalls.
A few kilometers from the Paso de Cortés, there are some rustic cabins where you can spend the night.
It is recommended that hiking activities and mountain excursions be carried out in the company of a professional guide and that you also do not forget to register at the Visitor Service Center.
