It is located in the Atoyac Valley and was a sacred place for the Totonac people, who used it to offer sacrifices to Tlaloc, the God of rain, in order to obtain good harvests. Evidence of these rituals is a carved stone yoke found in the pool, currently exhibited in the museum of Córdoba.
This part, where the Atoyac River is born, is a beautiful turquoise spring surrounded by lush medium-sized jungle vegetation.
In this place, you can observe the river in all its splendor inside a cave, where you can discover an underground river flowing through large stones.
The Atoyac River runs through 13 municipalities until it flows into the Papaloapan Basin, and it is an excellent option for extreme sports and adventure lovers.
