It spans over 50,000 hectares, making it the largest protected natural area in Sinaloa.
It harbors diverse ecosystems, where over 300 plant species, 26 amphibian species, 59 reptile species, 79 mammal species, and 340 bird species have been identified.
It is a rich biological corridor abundant in low deciduous jungles and offers interesting places to visit, such as La Chilacayota, a picturesque village known for its wonderful traditional dishes, and Las Labradas in Barra de Piaxtla, an interesting archaeological site consisting of a group of rocks spanning an area of 343 meters with over 640 rock engravings.
