It is located in one of the most beautiful places in Durango, the Valley of Guatimapé. It is one of the most important wetlands in the state and is made up of two large bodies of water of similar size. The one located to the northwest maintains water all year round and the one to the southeast only receives water during the rainy season.

Formerly it was known as " Patos" (Ducks), due to the large number of these birds that inhabit the lagoon. In fact, it has become an Ecological Reserve for Migratory Birds.

These lagoons, which are mainly fed by the San Antonio River, during the winter months, offer an admirable spectacle for all the birds that use this stopover on their journey south, such as Canadian geese and ducks.
