It is bordered to the north by Manzanillo Bay and to the south by the Armería River. It is the largest and most spectacular lagoon in the entire State, measuring 50 kilometers in length and 3 kilometers in width. It consists of four bodies of water called vessels that are delimited by natural and artificial barriers.
It is a biological corridor with black, red and white mangroves that are home to 186 bird species, both migratory and resident.
It is also known for the production of very high quality salt that is requested by chefs from all over the world.
Inside the lagoon there is a hatchery dedicated to the protection and preservation of turtles, especially olive ridley, leatherback and black turtles, as well as iguanas and alligators. They are also in charge of the conservation of the Estero Palo Verde, which is the largest in the state.
Nearby is the town of the same name, where you will find some hotels and various typical restaurants with excellent seafood dishes, which can also be enjoyed in the comfortable and pleasant umbrellas placed along the beach.
The closest beach with the same name of Cuyutlán, is a beach with open sea and strong waves, famous for its unique attraction of the Green Wave, which reaches a height of eight meters during the months of April to June.
