It is an elongated island with an extension of about 150 square kilometers.

Its history dates back to 1698 when the Jesuits discovered a salt deposit located to the north of the island. After passing through many hands, the salt mine is currently closed, and as part of your adventure, you can visit the ghost town of "Bahía Salinas," once occupied by the salt mine workers. You can also visit the well-preserved chapel of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, maintained by the wives of the concession owners.

Ideal for enjoying nature or simply relaxing on its beautiful and secluded beaches where you can swim or enjoy the relaxing landscape. Fishing is also possible in the surrounding areas.

If you are interested in exploring the underwater world, you can find sea caves along its coasts and a large sunken ship that houses a great diversity of marine life.

This island offers many places to explore, such as:

Arroyo Blanco

One of the few limestone areas on Carmen Island, characterized by its enormous white cliffs rising along the coast, interrupted by beautiful sandy coves and bays with calm turquoise waters.

It is an ideal place to enjoy its transparent waters, whether by swimming, snorkeling, or diving.

Bahía Salinas

It is Carmen's largest and most picturesque beach, where besides the blue waters and a large number of pelicans, you will find the remains of the ghost town of Salinas.

This town now offers a scenery with rusty machinery and buildings that were once occupied by the workers of the old salt mines. Explore the salt flats and discover a white world full of colors and history.

Arroyo Blanco Sur

In this area, there is also limestone with huge caves suitable for snorkeling. The bay hosts a large population of large marine snails, and its crystal-clear waters sometimes attract schools of sardines or dolphins.

Punta Baja

This is the southernmost point of Del Carmen Island, an ideal place for relaxation. It consists of several beaches and coves surrounded by transparent and calm waters, complemented by a panoramic view of Danzante Island.

The shallow waters hide some of Loreto's largest hard coral reefs, and it is not difficult to spot dolphins swimming along the coast. It is located 18 km from Loreto and 8 km from Puerto Escondido.
