Named after its historical use as a cemetery by early settlers, the Hill of Memory, also known as Memorian Hill, stands out as one of the most captivating attractions in the region.
With a height of 160 meters, it has become an iconic landmark of the city. A paved road leads up to the pergola situated at the summit.
At the hilltop, you'll find the towering 11-meter statue of the Virgin Queen of the Fuerte Valley, providing a spectacular panoramic view of the city and the Sinaloa coast.
An interesting fact is that three lighthouses were once located on this hill, making it the only non-coastal city in the country to have constructed lighthouses. The first lighthouse, initiated by Sherwood Johnston in 1929 to guide air and maritime navigation, was unfortunately destroyed during a cleaning attempt. The second lighthouse was built in the 1960s, and the third was inaugurated in 2003 but fell into disuse.
Since 2013, a 3.4 km cycle path has encircled the hill, offering a scenic route for cycling enthusiasts.
