Also known as the Temple of Doom, its name comes from the fact that when the midday sun crosses through holes in the ceiling, it creates two eyes and a mouth, resembling a skull.
After walking about 100 m through a lush jungle, you reach a hole in the ground with a circumference of 10 m. To enter the cenote, you have to jump approximately 3 m, depending on the water level, but there is also a wooden ladder for entry and exit. The temperature ranges from 24 to 26°C.
It is one of the most challenging places to dive in the area, starting from the difficult access. The water of the cenote is about six meters below the surface, so the easiest way to reach the water is by simply jumping. There are several natural formations from which you can jump into the large cenote hole.
Once inside, you enter a large cavern with a circumference of 160 m. With a bit of imagination, you can see the shape of a skull looking up, as well as a large number of bats flying around you. You can also encounter a large number of blind and black catfish that have no problem approaching you.
You can rest or meditate on some of the rocks that protrude from the walls of the cavern.
It is famous for its rope swing, where you can sit or stand for an unforgettable photo.
For more experienced divers, there are four separate entrances with a depth of up to 19 m and three layers of "halocline." From a distance, the halocline looks like a crystal breaking a beam of light, and when you are inside it, everything appears slightly blurred.
Below the halocline, the water is brilliantly clear, and you can see all the options the cenote has to explore, as it connects to a cave system, all with impressive rock formations and a variety of fish.
The bottom of the cenote is known for its rock formations.
