Its construction began in 1809 and was completed in 1897.

The image of Our Lady of the Angels was brought from Bilbao, Spain.

The exquisite altar is a filigree work of quarry stone created by artist Benigno Montoya Muñoz.

It houses a collection of colonial-era paintings depicting the Stations of the Cross. The works are displayed in the side corridors. The temple also features a magnificent pipe organ.
