Templo de Nuestra Señora de la Merced
The Mercedarian Order was founded in Guadalajara in 1629, and the current temple was initiated in 1650 and completed in 1721.
The atrium was reformed in 1896 and is enclosed by a stone wall and pilasters topped with vases that support the iron grilles. A white marble sculpture of the Immaculate Conception was placed in it.
Inside, you can appreciate huge paintings adorning its walls, illustrating apparitions and miracles of the Virgin of Mercy.
The main altarpiece is a beautiful carving in cypress wood and houses the sculptures of the Virgin and Child in the center.
The sacristy preserves examples of paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries by artist Diego Cuentas.
