Fed by the waters of the Yaqui River, it is also known as "El Oviáchic" and is the largest dam in Sonora.
In its waters, you can engage in various water activities, while its surroundings offer opportunities for camping, picnicking, and other recreational activities.
Over the past decades, the dam has become one of the main tourist attractions in the area. Visitors can walk along its shores, go birdwatching, camp, and enjoy panoramic views from its viewpoint.
The calm waters of the dam provide an ideal place for fishing, with catfish, tilapia, and especially black bass being common catches. Throughout the year, several important International Fishing Tournaments are held here.
