Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel (Parish)

The temple was built in the 17th century, and the priest Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla officiated at this parish.

It is located south of the main garden, preceded by an iron-fenced atrium.

It has an unusual neo-Gothic facade that, due to its magnitude and unique style including magnificent arches and columns, has become the signature of the city.

Prior to the current parish, previous buildings had been constructed, the first in 1555 and later in 1680 when a Baroque-style building was erected.

The current facade dates from between 1880 and 1890 when master stonemason Don Zeferino Guérrez built it, drawing inspiration from magnificent Gothic buildings of the Middle Ages. For this purpose, the towers from the 16th and 17th centuries and the entrance, niches, coral window, and atrium had to be completely transformed.

Inside, there are paintings by the renowned artist Juan Rodríguez Juárez and other important painters of the time.
