It's a beautiful lagoon located within the city of Tampico and surrounded by an impressive mangrove forest. It connects to the Pánuco River through Canal de la Cortadura (Cortadura Channel).

While boating through the lagoon, you can admire turtles, iguanas, birds, and crocodiles, among many other inhabitants of the mangrove. 

The International Powerboat Competition takes place in this lagoon. 

It has fish farms and nurseries. 

The lagoon is home to the Metropolitan Park, playground areas, green spaces, and palapas (thatched huts).
