The island is just 5 km off the coast of Sonora in the Gulf of California and 45 km from Ciudad Obregón. Its name means "Long Neck" in the Mayo language.
It stretches for 17 km in length and is 1.2 km wide at its widest point. This small natural paradise is characterized by vast sand dunes where adventure enthusiasts can have fun with off-road vehicles.
Another attractive feature of the island is a freshwater well that reaches a depth of 97 m, creating an oasis surrounded by palm trees, which serves as a habitat for a variety of birds, including white and gray pelicans, gray cranes, herons, and albatrosses.
The island is surrounded by calm waters where various water activities, including fishing, can be enjoyed. Its coasts are home to sierra, cabrilla, sole, mullet, and grouper.
